Press Release No. 14/2015-PR August 14, 2015 69th Independence Day Celebrated at Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi The 69th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with national zeal and spirit at the High Commission today. Mr. Abdul Basit, High Commissioner raised the flag to the tune of national anthem in an impressive ceremony which was held on the Chancery’s lush green lawns. Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner said Pakistan had always wanted to have a normal and cooperative relationship with India. To this end, it was necessary to settle all the outstanding issues, particularly the Jammu & Kashmir dispute. “Aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir could neither be ignored nor put on the back burner. No matter how much more time does their legitimate struggle take, Pakistan will never abandon Kashmiris and their cause.” The High Commissioner added that it was also essential to create a congenial bilateral environment by eschewing stereotypes and self-serving propaganda. High Commissioner Basit also dwelt on far-reaching changes taking place in Pakistan in all spheres. He said the resilient people of Pakistan had always come out of difficult challenges with a vengeance. Pakistan’s economy was now showing encouraging signs of recovery. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was testimony to Pakistan’s potential and unparallel opportunities the country offered for investment. The High Commissioner said Pakistan was destined to become a regional economic hub to the benefit of all the regional countries and beyond. Students of the Pakistan High Commission School presented a colourful program based on national songs and tableau. Ms. Summiya Basit, wife of the High Commissioner, distributed prizes and gifts amongst the children. Earlier, Mr. Mansoor A. Khan, Deputy High Commissioner read out the Independence Day messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
