HC Abdul Basit at Foreign Correspondents Club ND
Pakistan´s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit addressed the media at the Foreign Correspondent´s Club in New Delhi, today, where he said that his meeting with Hurriyat leaders was a routine process. “We have been meeting Hurriyat leaders over decades. Our foreign office have already articulated its message to them clearly. Jammu and Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan, and should be solved bilaterally through peaceful solutions. Asserting that engagement with all stakeholders have been the “bottom-line” of Islamabad´s efforts to find a solution to the Kashmir issue. This setback [cancellation of talks between foreign secretaties] should not discourage us to take our talks forward. We owe it to our leaders to implement and translate their vision,” said Basit. On the ceasefire violations on the Line of Control, Pakistan´s envoy said that the Indian side violated the ceasefire 57 times since July. “We intimated the Indian officials to stop these violations. We hope this will come to an end,” said HC Abdul Basit.
