The credentials presentation ceremony

Mr. Abdul Basit, High Commissioner for Pakistan to India presented his credentials to the President of India, H.E. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony held in Rashtrapati Bhavan (President House) in New Delhi, today. The credentials presentation ceremony was attended by the officers of the Ministry of External Affairs, Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Pakistan High Commission. In an audience with the President after the formal ceremony, the High Commissioner conveyed to him warmest greetings from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The High Commissioner said that Prime Minister was resolved to changing the bilateral narrative of conflict into a one underpinned by cooperation, mutual interest and mutual trust. He said Pakistan hoped that the next government would move quickly and resolutely to engage fruitfully with Pakistan as desired by the people on both sides of the border and the LoC. Mr. Abdul Basit was born in 1958. He holds Master’s Degree in International Relations. He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1982. During his distinguished diplomatic career, he held important assignments at Pakistan Missions abroad: Moscow (1985) – 1988), New York (1991 – 1994), Sana’a (1994-1997), Geneva (2001-2003) and London (September 2003 to August 2008), Ambassador of Pakistan to Germany (2012 to Feb 2014). He served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Headquarters) as Section Officer (1983 – 1988 & 1991), Director (1997 – 2001), Director General (2008 – 2009), Spokesman (2009 – 2010), & Additional Secretary (Europe) 2009 – 2012.
